Networking Key to Business Success
I could not have stayed in business for all these years without networking. Word of mouth has always been my primary business generator, so far personal contact beats social media and most advertising. I work alone and sometimes have to push myself away from the computer screen and attend business events. I never regret meeting new people and being social. It’s a lot more fun than working on a computer and I always meet someone interesting or learn something new.
I’ve been involved with TPBB for years and I’ve benefited in many ways, both personally and professionally. I feel like I’m part of a team of people that come from many different careers and lifestyles yet we look out for one another. It could be just putting a good word in for a person in a social setting or handing their card out with a recommendation for a specific job. Personally, I benefited from fantastic realtors, bankers, sign makers, makeup stylists, computer techs and much more through Twin Ports Business Builders. I like the low membership fee and relaxed atmosphere.
I own Studio One photography in Superior, WI (since 1994). Recently, I opened a larger studio, it has lots of window light and even a chandelier (grand opening coming soon). I am energized and inspired by the beautiful new surroundings. I have photographed hundreds of weddings, senior portraits, sports teams, business portraits, and events. I’ve been a stringer for these regional magazines (for more than twelve years): The Woman Today, Duluth.com and Mom’s and Dad’s Today.
In 2013, I became certified as a Google Street View Trusted Photographer for the interiors of businesses. I photograph in a 360 panoramic style to create a virtual tour which is applied to Google Maps business listings, websites and other social media. Some of my more notable tours are Bentleyville, Pier B Resort and Mills Fleet Farm-Duluth. I work for several virtual tour agencies nation-wide. I also create virtual tours for art galleries and real estate.
As a Google Get Your Business Online Partner I’m certified to instantly verify businesses thus bypassing the two-week postcard notice. I assist business owners with their Google Knowledge Box and have recently started giving workshops.
I have a degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations and a minor in Art History from the University of Minnesota-Minneapolis. I started my career as a photo-journalist for the New Ulm Journal in Southern MN. I inherited my father’s camera as a kid and haven’t put it down since.
I live in Superior with my husband and three sons, two of which are in college and one in middle school. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family on the South Shore, photographing sled dog racing and day tripping with my Golden Doodle.
